The athlete recorded her personal best of 1:54.61 last year in the British capital.

Keely Hodgkinson concluded her 800m season with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday night.

{The current Olympic champion, who earned bronze at the global championships last month, excelled in an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a year impacted by a hamstring injury.

Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this season so it was probably easier for me to compete and be motivated to perform," said Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere at the event is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."

The women-only meet packed the stadium in its second edition, introducing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns replacing standard medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is married to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the winners with their tiaras.

Previous champions took home sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.

The event also attracted several top athletes, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith K. won the mile, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, secured the sprint double.
